It’s mid-April, the cold winter has passed and springtime is in the air. I find myself surrounded by gorgeous snowy mountains, the warm sun hitting my face with a crisp smell in the air. I’m in Chamonix, a ski resort town on the eastern most tip of France. I traveled here by bus, only 1 hour away from Geneva, Switzerland (I used FlixBus). From the moment you step off the bus, you’re transported to an idyllic little town, filled with cozy hotels and cafes. There’s a beautiful river flowing through the town with the most clear water I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s magical!
Chamonix is nestled right at the bottom of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the alps. For this reason, Chamonix is frequented by ski and mountain enthusiasts every year. It was even home to the winter olympics back in 1924. When I visited this town I was neither a skier or mountain climber. I was there simply to take in the sights and experience the charm of this small chalet.
As you walk, you’ll pass by many boutique shops selling winter gear plus lots of nice restaurants. I even had the chance to stop by a small cafe to eat a warm delicious crepe (the crepes in France are the best thing you’ll ever taste). After finishing the crepe, we found a small info center and asked what people normally do here. They told us we can go visit the ice cave nearby, go hiking on Mont Blanc or take the lift up to highest point called Aiguille du Midi. This town is definitely made for winter bunnies looking for some adventure 🙂
Since we were only staying for one day and did not have any type of climbing experience, we opted for taking the cable car lift up to Aiguille du Midi and were so glad we did! It was such an adventure and an amazing way to end our short trip to Chamonix.
